Darley Moor Round 2 was the predicted delivery date for our new arrival - but Lucy decided to arrive two weeks early, so came along to her first race meeting instead! At only 4lb 10oz, we made sure she was wrapped up nice and warm :-) The weather was dry but it was extremely windy throughout the day - at times taking 9mph off our usual top speed down the back straight - but we managed to qualify in pole position for both the Formula Darley and Mini Sound of Thunder classes. The high winds combined with a number of oil spillages meant that the day was eventful. The first race of day (Peak Cup) was red flagged three times due to crashes, which set the tone for the rest of the day - with a minimum of five blown engines being experienced by entrants through the course of the meeting. With some of my competitors from Darley Moor Round 1 at other race events, we took full advantage and secured wins in both Formula Darley race 1 and Mini Sound of Thunder race 1. But with the arrival of heavy rain in the afternoon, the combination of the heavy rainfall and the oil spillages earlier in the day meant that the organisers had no option but to abandon the rest of the meeting for safety purposes. Our race wins meant that we were featured in the published Race Report, as well as moving into 2nd position in the club racing championships.
Our next race meeting is Darley Moor Round 3 on Bank Holiday Monday 4th May. |
