Darley Moor Round 5 - Race Review

Round 5 of the Darley Moor club championships took place on Saturday 20th July. Despite the 30+ degree temperatures that England was experiencing on the run-up to the meeting, we were greeted with an overcast sky and temperature of circa 22 degrees - much more manageable weather for racing in!

As expected, the track conditions were dry all day. In the Formula Darley qualifying session I needed to scrub in some new tyres and bed in new some brake pads, which took a few laps; but managed to qualify 3rd in class. In the following Mini Sound of Thunder qualifying session, I managed to go one better to qualify 2nd in class.

Through the day I was able to put in some solid performances and finished in 2nd place in all four races! The races were fairly lonely but I was lapping consistently and comfortably, within around a second-of-a-lap off my personal best.

Overall, the event was fairly uneventful for me, with the lonely races and no machine troubles - but I managed to secure some decent championship points and am still sitting in 2nd place in both the Formula Darley and Mini Sound of Thunder standings after five of the eight championship rounds:

R5 Onboard Videos Now Available

Videos from Darley Moor Round 5, showing onboard footage from  the Kawasaki ER650 Supertwin, are now available via the Two Daves Racing YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/dsc88dsc88/videos?view=0&flow=grid).
The Leanometer data that was initially introduced in the Round 4 videos has been refined and now appears a lot smoother. The data shows that we are getting lean angles up to 53 degrees (from vertical) from our converted commuter bike on road legal tyres! That's not bad considering that prototype MotoGP bikes on slick race tyres are managing a maximum lean angle of circa 63 degrees ;-)

A good lean angle for a club racer...
