For racing, the sound limit is set at 105db (twice as loud). We have yet to measure how loud the bike is without the baffle fitted, but are confident that it will be within the sound limit.
Here is me (and the better half!) queueing up for sound testing at the start of the day. The sound limit for the day for the Kawasaki ER650 was set at 102db, at 5,500rpm (half of the engine's maximum rev limit). With the silencing baffle fitted we were tested at 101.6db - close to the limit but good enough to pass first time! For racing, the sound limit is set at 105db (twice as loud). We have yet to measure how loud the bike is without the baffle fitted, but are confident that it will be within the sound limit. Then, it was time for some gentle riding to bed in the new brake pads... :-)

Oulton Park in Cheshire was the venue for the first test of 2013, which took place on Saturday 23rd February. After a lot of work by Dynopro Racing & Tim Poole of the Poole Performance Centre (as well as myself!) within the week leading up to the test, the bike was finally ready to go at 10.30pm the night before! The test session itself went well. New brake pads were bedded in, a few minor issues were identified and fixed. Snow arriving in the afternoon cut the test session short, but I was feeling comfortable on the bike, which is unusual for me after not riding for months, so that bodes well for the next pre-season test. Over the weekend (16th/17th February), work on the bike continued and we had the bike running for the first time since the engine (and bike!) was rebuilt. She runs and sounds great! After having the bike running, the wiring loom has since been stripped down and all unneccessary electrical connections (such as the horn, headlights, etc that are not needed for racing) have been removed.
Through the week, work will continue and then we'll pass the bike to Dynopro Racing in Runcorn where they will run-in the bike, then setup the fuelling & ignition. Once we have the bike back from Dynopro Racing we'll finish all the remaining little jobs, mount the bodywork & post up a photo of our newly rebuilt Kawasaki ER650 Supertwin! :-) The bodywork has now been collected from Alan Bamber at RR Racing (http://www.rrracing.co.uk/racepaint/) after he has worked his magic! The photos don't do it justice but you can guarantee that we won't be missed whilst out on track! We're booked into the 105db test day at Darley Moor on Friday 22nd March, in advance of Rounds 1 & 2 which are being held at the same circuit the following weekend. The test day should give us a chance to confirm the gearing, etc needed on the new bike in advance of the first qualifying session (as well as providing some much needed practice after a winter off!) and will hopefully mean that we will be close to our desired pace at the start of the Darley Moor season. Or thats the plan anyway...
