Essential Repairs
The first job was to install a proper fix for the issue experienced at the final race of 2016, so we sourced an black-anodised pair valve block off plate and fitted the black cam cover back onto the black engine. The silver engine that dropped a valve at Silverstone was rebuilt during the season with new pistons, new valves, etc then received its silver cam cover back. The silver engine will be run-in on the dyno over winter and then removed to be kept as a spare, with the black engine being fitted for the start of the 2017 season. Both engines are identical in specification, so it makes sense to keep the freshest motor as the spare.
Changes to Race Leathers
David Junior's transfer of employment in late 2016 introduced a new sponsor and necessitated a change of sponsor patches, so we also took the opportunity to make some small sizing changes to improve the comfort of the suits whilst off the bike and around the paddock. We now have two sets of identical race leathers ready to go for the 2017 season!
Possible new exhaust - Arata Titanium
We have decided to test a different exhaust system on the dyno over the winter to see what effect it has on our engine tune and on power output. Our current underseat stainless steel Quill exhaust system weighs 5.0kg. The Arata titanium exhaust weighs 3.0kg and carries the weight lower down, so it is a considerable weight saving. Once we have seen the dyno results, we will decide which exhaust system to use for the 2017 season. Watch this space for further news!
New Toolbox
We also decided to take advantage of Black Friday deals and treated ourselves to a new toolbox! With the old toolbox nearly full to capacity it was only a matter of time before a change needed to be made, so this seemed like an ideal opportunity.
Along with the progression of the above items, we also have some other changes taking place - which we should be able to provide further news about in early 2017. Until then, we would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
