The day started well with me qualifying 2nd in the Formula Darley class and 1st in the Mini Sound of Thunder class.
The Formula Darley class provided an entertaining pair of races, with some increasingly aggressive moves being pulled by the 125 guys, which will surely make interesting on-board camera footage!
The first Mini Sound of Thunder saw me having a race with one of the 125 riders from the Formula Darley race, which lost me the tow of the leader, but once I managed to get into some clean air, I was able to put in the fastest lap of the race. A standout moment during the race was being passed at the end of the straight by a 250 rider who had seriously misjudged his braking marker - and ended up hitting the barrier at the end of the straight and being catapulted over the fence (both man and machine!). Fortunately, the man was OK. But the machine didn't get away as luckily...
Upon return from the second Formula Darley race, the engine was making unusual noises from the top end. So as a precaution we decided to call it a day to allow proper inspection/repair. Congratulations must go out to Brad Vicars who managed to win the second Mini Sound of Thunder race and be crowned the 2013 champion for the class!
Round 7 of the Darley Moor championships will take place on Sunday 15th September, where hopefully I will be able to secure 2nd place in the championship!
