After waking to a dry paddock, the rain arrived around 9am so the tyres were switched to wets - but by the time we were let out for qualifying the track had completely dried, so we squished and slid around to eventually qualify in 5th place on the Formula Darley grid.
With the Mini Sound Of Thunder qualifying session only 25 minutes away, we quickly changed tyres back to dries and put the tyre warmers on for a quick 10 minutes (the norm is usually 40-50 minutes). With this in mind, I said I would take three laps to properly warm up the tyres. On lap four I then upped the pace, but the session was red flagged on that lap due to a three-rider crash (fortunately all were OK!) which placed me 12th on the Mini Sound Of Thunder grid.
With the days races (on an increasingly windy and damp circuit) resulting in a pair of 2nd place finishes, we managed to secure 2nd place in the Formula Darley championship and 2nd place in the Mini Sound Of Thunder championship!
At this point I would like to thank all of my sponsors, helpers, fans and followers for making my 2013 racing season a happy and successful one!
My final race meeting of the year will be the "Stars at Darley" meeting on Sunday 13th October.
